In or Out: The players Danny has to make a decision on this summer

On the face of it, this is surely a no-brainer. He’s our number one, clearly the better of our initial keepers and significantly better than Sam Slocombe from the division above.

The big question has to be over that injury.

Can Danny make do with a keeper who gives him 25 games a season, even if that keeper is Josh Vickers? He’s played 16 times in the league and three times in the cup, which means he’s missed 40% of our League Two fixtures. Can that be tolerated.

In my opinion, Grant Smith is a decent keeper, but he’s a mid table League Two keeper. He’s not a League One stopper and if Josh is injured for 40% of the season, whether that’s in League One or Two next time out, can he be a decent investment?

I’m inclined to say yes, but it would mean bringing in a back up of Matt Gilks quality on a more permanent basis. If they can get to the root of Vickers persistent niggle then he’ll be a huge asset for the club.
