Three key battles to keep an eye on this weekend

Stevenage roll into town this weekend, a side we’ve only met competitively on six occasions. Currently, we’ve got four wins, three in the league and one in the FA Cup.

They’ve beaten us twice, doing the double in 2010/11. Their only win at Sincil Bank came in September 2010, when Michael Bostwick played for them and their current manager. Dino Maamria, was an unused sub.

There were no match ups to comment on that day. Bozzy would have had to contend with one of Clarke Keltie or Josh O’Keefe, a battle I imagine our boys lost. They had Chris Holroyd up front, a talented striker who bagged the only goal. He got the better of Moses Swaibu that day, although a pre-injury Adam Watts played and he was a decent player.

To try to save the game we brought on Drewe Broughton, Gavin McCallum and Delroy Facey. Wow,

Anyway, that was then and this is now. We don’t live in the past, even though I spent 90% of my time on this site writing about it. We live in the here and now, a world where Facey is probably still behind bars, many have seemingly forgiven Broughton and we’re top of the table. This weekend the behemoth Bozzy will be on our side, fit or not, and we’ll be looking to get our fifth win in seven against Stevenage.

Can we do it? Of course we can. No game is a walkover and they’re pushing the edge of the play-off race so it’ll be a big challenge, but if we win these three key battles then I see no reason why we won’t go on to win the game.
