Thanks, no thanks: Peterborough United

Thanks – Bozzy and Harry

Where else could we start other than the transfer of the season at the start of our League Two campaign?

It’s one of those ‘you remember where you were’ moments for me. I remember clearly I was sat in Fe’s Mum’s kitchen in Cambridge having been out to Jazz Club for her birthday the night before; that would make it a Thursday morning. I got wind of a ‘big’ deal going ahead and had heard we’d lodged one for Harry and it’d been on the back burner for a while. A source told me it was a double swoop and Michael Bostwick was involved; the same Michael Bostwick who had reportedly refused a move to Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

I told him he was mistaken and hours later I had egg on my face.

The legend goes that our manager called up Posh to activate the Anderson deal and, buoyed by getting a huge sum for Britt Assombalonga the same day, Barry Fry let us take Bozzy on the cheap. Whatever the truth, he gave us the leg up we needed to become instant play-off challengers in League Two.

Harry’s move seemed to almost pale into insignificance, but his goals and bullish determination have been a huge asset too. It was perhaps the biggest double-swoop we’d made in my life and it deserves our thanks.

  1. Gary, I went to the Barry Fry evening at the Theatre royal and he said that the only reason they let Anderson go was the current Manager at the time played the Diamond formation and had no room for Wingers but I know that Barry Fry Rates Anderson very highly and thinks he will play at an higher level.
