Go on, admit it. You read that an immediately you had the song in your head; Franny, Franny Greeeeen, Franny, Franny Greeeeeeen’. I’ve got it in my head now and will likely go to sleep with it in there.

During the 2003/04 and the 04/05 seasons, our trio of attackers were a constant threat to sides coming to the Bank. Green might have been the ‘lesser’ of the three (the other two being Yeo and Taylor-Fletcher), but I loved him all the same.

Why? Firstly, he became the first player we’d paid a significant sum for when he arrived and hie hailed in a new era; we’d shrugged off the shackles of administration and although money wasn’t free-flowing, we were able to buy players in.

Secondly, I just liked the way he played. He chased and harassed, always looked to get a shot away and although he wasn’t the most prolific I always felt he gave the team everything he had. After we beat Scunthorpe 2-0 in March 2005 we should have pressed on and gone up automatically. One or two players, those whose heads had turned, seemed to drop their performance level. Not Franny, he bagged as we beat Macclesfield 2-0 at the Bank to keep us in the play-off hunt.

I liked Franny Green and am chuffed Posh sold him to us.

  1. Gary, I went to the Barry Fry evening at the Theatre royal and he said that the only reason they let Anderson go was the current Manager at the time played the Diamond formation and had no room for Wingers but I know that Barry Fry Rates Anderson very highly and thinks he will play at an higher level.
