Remy Longdon began his career as a youngster at Blackburn Rovers, regularly turning out for their Under 23 side, but failing to make the step up to their senior side. During his time with Rovers, he had spells out on loan, appearing for Bamber Bridge and Skelmersdale. However, after leaving Blackburn, Remy had a spell out of the game.

“It was tough, really tough,” he said of being released by Blackburn. “I had a year and a half gap out of football completely. I had an injury in my back which meant I couldn’t run for a year and that was very hard. Going from being a pro at Blackburn to not being able to put my socks on or get out of bed in a morning, it was tough.”

He returned to football with Skelmersdale before signing for Ashton United, making five appearances in the Vanarama National League North. He then moved to Wales to play for Cefn Druids, a move which saw him commuting to take part for the League of Wales side. Whilst with the Ancients, he impressed with a stunning hat trick in 3-3 draw with Carmarthen Town in which all three goals came from his left foot, despite him being right-footed. After one season at The Rock, he sought a move back into English football.

Remy joined the Imps on trial in pre-season after sending a video of his clips to manager Michael Appleton. He became known as the mysterious Trialist A, keeping fans guessing as to his identity. Such was his impact in pre-season, he was awarded a one-year deal with the club.

He made his Imps debut as a last-minute sub in the 2-1 League Cup win at Crewe, then made his home debut three days later as a starter in the 1-1 EFL Trophy draw against Scunthorpe United. He had to bide his time for his Football League debut, eventually being handed a chance as a 63rd-minute sub in the 2-1 home defeat against Bristol Rovers.

His first goal for City came in the 4-0 win at Shrewsbury in the EFL Trophy, and his first start for the Imps in the Football League quickly followed, as we were beaten 1-0 by Shrewsbury in the league. He bagged his first league goal in the 5-1 Boxing Day rout of Burton Albion, slotting home after just three minutes.

Remy was the unlucky taker of the only missed penalty kick in the EFL Trophy semi-final defeat, but was quickly back in Football League action as a late sub as we beat Wigan Athletic 2-1. On February 25th, 2021, he was awarded a one-year extension to his current Imps deal. Upon putting pen to paper, Imps manager Michael Appleton said of Remy: “Remy is a young player who has worked very hard this season. We are delighted to see him commit himself to the club beyond this season.”

The 2021/22 season was tough on Remy, as he struggled to nail down regular football, even from the bench. A late miss in the 2-1 win against Burton seemed to seal his fate, and after failing to get minutes in back-to-back cup games against Carlisle and Hartlepool, he was loaned to National League North side York City. On January 21, 2022, the move was made permanent.
