Five Areas Michael Appleton Will Surely Look at This Summer

One of our biggest problems in midfield will be sorted next season in my opinion. Losing Liam Bridcutt has hurt the team massively because Jorge Grant then drops back and his creativity is reduced. Tayo Edun looks strong as part of the two ahead of a CDM, but not in the ‘four’ role himself. I firmly believe that Max Sanders is the answer and that when the season kicks off, he is the player we’ll turn to if Bridcutt is injured. That leaves Grant, McGrandles, Edun and Jones fighting for two spots ahead of him.

I’m assuming Edun and Bramall will rotate at left-back, meaning it is two from three in the attacking area, and that might offer a little concern for Michael. James Jones, excellent early doors, has fallen away a little of late and whilst form is temporary, I wonder if that might feature in Michael’s thoughts. I suspect we’ll see a loan player here, someone in the Johnson mould who can play attacking midfield, but also maybe nine or ten. I like the way we have played the loan market this season, and I could see us grabbing another Brennan Johnson figure. Remember, Johnson is usually a ten, or an attacking eight, rather than a right-winger which is how he has been used.
