Jack Mulhall xG Award – Ted Bishop +2.93

This award is given to the player who has scored more goals than xG suggests he has. Jack Mulhall loves a bit of xG, but a special mention to my mate Pete ‘It’s Not a Stat’ Summers who will doubtless have something to say on this. Basically, if a player has an expected goals (xG) of 3.14, and he actually scores four, he’s outperformed his xG and is therefore in line for the award.

This season, seven eligible players scored more than their xG suggested they should, with four over a goal better. Sean Roughan (two goals, 0.92 xG), Ben House (13 goals, 10.9 xG) and Lasse Sorensen (three goals, 0.82 xG) are the three behind our winner.

Ted Bishop, with six goals and an xG of 3.07, is your winner. That’s almost three goals more than expected, so he is the third winner of our xG award. Ted has been a bit of a forgotten man lately, not mentioned when talking about next season, but someone who, in patches, has shown he has the ability to succeed. It will be interesting to see where he goes from here, but this award does prove he has an eye for the unexpected.
