Loan Player of the Year – Carl Rushworth (6.89)

Another season, another young keeper arrives and ends up securing plaudits. Rushworth has been fantastic this campaign, and whilst Mark Kennedy picked him as Young Player of the Season for the club, you’ve given him the ratings over the course of the season to ensure he wins the loan award here.
Carl has been excellent, with quick distribution, great shot stepping and a strong command of his area. He’s looked much older and more competent than his tender age suggests he might be, and only in the final weeks of the season, after relegation was fully staved off, did we see a couple of mistakes.
If he’s not playing regular Championship football next season, I’ll be utterly gobsmacked.
It’s fair to say this ended up being quite close – Shodipo, Virtue and Boyes were all separated by 0.04 in terms of their numbers, but Rushworth was ahead of those with 6.89.
There’s not a lot to say that I haven’t already said above, but if we’re going to consistently loan in keepers of his quality, and that of Griffiths and Palmer who were both good for us, then I’m happy to see more young stoppers on loan in the future. We clearly get more bang for our buck with the loan stoppers than outfield players, and to be fair, since January our loan signings have performed well.
