Michael Skubala was effusive in his praise for the Imps after beating top-of-the-table Cardiff City yesterday at The Bank.
Speaking post-match, he lavished praise on the hardworking Imps, who twice took the lead, once through an own goal, and then again through Sonny Bradley’s header after Perry Ng had levelled.
In the end, it was a fresh Lincoln side that looked to be on top, and if a fourth goal was coming, City would likely have scored it.
“I thought the performance today was sensational,” he said in his post-match press interview.
“They’re a good team. They’re a really top team. Everyone can see that. I thought everything that we wanted to do, we did.
“We said it might be a set piece. We knew we had to we’d have to defend well. Second half after their first goal, and we changed shape a little bit to be more aggressive. We went to a back five because we thought we could be more aggressive with a five
“After that, I thought we could have gone and scored another. So I thought some top performances out there as well, when you look at Tendai and Conor again, the subs coming on.
“I thought to a man they were sensational today.”

The change of shape drew a few groans from around me, but it turned out to be a masterstroke. Indeed, the players coming on had a big role to play, with Justin Obikwu taking over from Freddie Draper and making an impact.
“Justin was great when he came on. He was aggressive, got to things really quickly, and I think we saw the best of Justin.
“He will be pushing for a start, just like Rob Street, who I thought was sensational again in terms of his work ethic. When you look at Freddie and Rob at the start of the game, they were brilliant with how they pressed.
“You only have to look at moments like Reeco running back to push it onto the bar. That is what we need and what we have in this team, that work ethic is sensational.
“This place is becoming a bit of a fortress, and I think any team coming here knows they are in for a tough game.”

Across the pitch, City looked capable and committed. Cardiff played some nice football, and when chances came their way, they certainly looked dangerous, but hard work counts for so much, and as Michael said, City’s resilience and tactical plan were enough to bring home a vital three points.
City now face two matches away from the Bank, before a huge double header against Huddersfield Town and an in-form Peterborough United to welcome in 2026.
