‘It Takes Time’ – Michael Skubala On Reaching 100 EFL Games For Lincoln City

Michael Skubala has now reached 100 League One matches for the Imps, capped by the 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town yesterday.

He is the ninth post-war manager to achieve the feat, and he has 43 wins, which is more than the previous eight managers managed in their first 100 EFL matches.

The battling 1-1 draw with Huddersfield, a game in which we should have been out of sight at half time, was reflective of a Skubala team, a side that has been ‘steadily growing’ according to the former Leeds United coach.

“I’ve loved it,” he said after yesterday’s game. “That’s 100 league games now. I’ve loved it.

“It’s been steadily growing as a club, as technical staff, as a head coach. I will say that first half, the way we played, is how the team wants to look every time. That’s the style I like. That’s the way we want to play.

“It takes time to grow it. If we can do that for 90 minutes, we’ll be a really dominant team.”

In a post-match conversation, I discussed with Chris how Skubala’s Lincoln are becoming like Ian Evatt’s Bolton, a well-organised side, capable of doing to dirty stuff, as well as playing a bit of football. Perhaps in terms of quality, we don’t quite have the same depth as they did, but we do have quality, and we have desire and spirit.

That makes coming to the Bank a pleasure, and rarely do we leave disappointed. While some fans may not have loved every moment of Skubala’s reign, they have backed the boss and his team vocally, and were again sensational yesterday.

“I’ve loved every moment,” finished Michael. “The club, the fans today were sensational. Hopefully, we can keep turning out points, recover, regen, go again, and go against Peterborough on sensational form with a new manager since we last played them.

“I love going again. This group of players are great to work with and the staff are brilliant to work with as well.”

We have to go again quickly, as old rivals Peterborough are up next. They’re a side we’d beaten once in nine league meetings before Michael came in, and a side we have registered back-to-back wins over, avoiding defeat in four games Skubala has managed.
