League One Promotion Run-In: Who Has It Worse?

Lincoln City – 1.41

(H) vs Blackpool (PPG away = 0.75), (A) at Cardiff City (PPG at home = 2.53), (A) at Exeter City (PPG at home = 1.67), (H) vs Stockport (PPG away = 1.67), (A) at Huddersfield (PPG at home = 2.06), (H) vs Rotherham (PPG away = 0.73), (A) at Doncaster (PPG at home = 1.47), (H) vs AFC Wimbledon (PPG away = 1.24), (A) at Reading (PPG at home = 1.76), (H) vs Leyton Orient (PPG away = 0.81), (A) at Stevenage (PPG at home = 2.00), (H) vs Wycombe (PPG away = 0.88), (A) at Port Vale (PPG at home = 0.73)

Experts will do the maths. 10 points, possibly 13 with the game in hand, a minimum of nine with Stockport taken into account. It’s ours for the taking, but the run-in isn’t easy.

The two tough ones are trips to Huddersfield and Cardiff, both with more than two points per game at home. Stockport and Exeter are the same level of challenge, 1.67 points from their matches. Reading have a better return as well, another tough assignment.

Those last two games should give us a chance to cement anything we need, should a mini-collapse happen.

  1. Nice analysis, would be nice to see the prediction being slightly wrong and us nicking it though. Even better if we give Cardiff a good beating and we both finish on 91 points with us edging it on goal difference!

BTW sometimes it is better to be promoted second and then we still have the fight and less complacency in the next season. It is amazing to see how many champions struggle, while second placed teams go on to thrive!

  2. I don’t know if there could be anything in it, but perhaps it’s best not to be top too soon. Most fans will look at Cardiff as a bigger game than us right now. But you would expect the clubs to utterly professional as they approach each game. I wonder if it influences the players though?
