League One Promotion Run-In: Who Has It Worse?

Stockport County – 1.48

(A) at Burton Albion (PPG at home = 1.31), (A) at Stevenage (PPG at home = 2.00), (H) vs Mansfield (PPG away = 1.13), (A) at Lincoln City (PPG at home = 2.35), (H) vs Northampton (PPG away = 0.76), (A) at Luton Town (PPG at home = 1.88), (H) vs AFC Wimbledon (PPG away = 1.24), (H) vs Wycombe (PPG away = 0.88), (A) at Bolton (PPG at home = 2.24), (H) vs Port Vale (PPG away = 0.80), (A) at AFC Wimbledon (PPG at home = 1.40), (A) at Exeter City (PPG at home = 1.67), (H) vs Peterborough (PPG away = 1.24), (A) at Barnsley (PPG at home = 1.80)

Only one team have a tougher fixture list than us going into the final 12/13 matches, and that is the team who are closest to us on a PPG basis. Apart from their trip to us, it doesn’t look difficult, there is no Huddersfield, Cardiff, Bradford or Plymouth on there. Wycombe are decent, but awful away, so where do Stockport get bogged down?

Stevenage and Luton look tough, and they do have Bolton and us. Barnsley are better at home than away, and their next fixture against Burton isn’t a gimme.

  1. Nice analysis, would be nice to see the prediction being slightly wrong and us nicking it though. Even better if we give Cardiff a good beating and we both finish on 91 points with us edging it on goal difference!

BTW sometimes it is better to be promoted second and then we still have the fight and less complacency in the next season. It is amazing to see how many champions struggle, while second placed teams go on to thrive!

  2. I don’t know if there could be anything in it, but perhaps it’s best not to be top too soon. Most fans will look at Cardiff as a bigger game than us right now. But you would expect the clubs to utterly professional as they approach each game. I wonder if it influences the players though?
