Northampton Town lean on unity after derby response
Northampton Town responded to midweek criticism with a spirited 1-1 draw against Peterborough United, and both Tom Eaves and manager Kevin Nolan were quick to credit the Sixfields crowd.
After a difficult defeat to Port Vale, when frustration had spilled over, the Cobblers produced what many felt was their strongest display in recent weeks. Eaves headed them in front just before half-time from Tyrese Fornah’s cross to reach 10 goals for the season, before Jimmy-Jay Morgan equalised.
Eaves spoke first about the impact of the support.
“The crowd were great and it makes such a difference to us as players.” “We could hear them from the first minute to the last and I think all of the players felt it.”
Nolan echoed that sentiment while referencing the criticism his side had absorbed days earlier.
“I thank the fans because they were absolutely excellent from minute one all the way through to the end.” “The boys took a bit of a battering in the week and they responded.”
Though Northampton felt it was two points dropped, the tone from both player and manager suggested a group determined to steady itself heading into the final stretch.
