9. Going out of the cups helped fuel the unbeaten run

No one enjoys cup exits in the moment, especially not the FA Cup defeat at Salford, and there was understandable anger when they happened. Yet with hindsight, those defeats may have been deeply beneficial. Losing to Huddersfield in the Trophy and going out of the FA Cup when City did created space in the calendar, particularly during a season where tactical preparation has clearly been one of our biggest strengths.

That fresh air in the schedule gave the coaching staff more training time and the players more recovery time. Others were dealing with extra fixtures, travel and fatigue, while we could focus more clearly on the league. Since that January pause, the return has been extraordinary. The unbeaten run has not happened only because of those exits, but the breaks they created have unquestionably helped sharpen the team at exactly the right time.
