Stacey West FC are delighted to announce that former Lincoln City and Championship player Dean West has signed on for the game against the British Heart Foundation.
The Stacey West are set to face the BHF on Friday, May 22nd, in aid of the Lincoln City Foundation. As Director of Football, it is my job to put a squad together, a blend of former Lincoln City players, people connected to the site, and maybe a ringer or two if we can tempt anyone! We’ve already signed National League hero Terry Hawkridge, and John Beck-era Craig Stones, and now we’re moving to secure more great signings.
The game is taking place at Ashby Avenue, home of Lincoln United, and it’s going to be much more than a game of football. We’re putting together a fun evening in conjunction with British Heart Foundation FC, and it’s going to be epic. We’re going to drip-feed the different fun things we have planned, but for now, you just need to save the date.
The match sponsor is Fox Electrical (huge thanks to Stew for his support), and we have other sponsorship opportunities available – please get in touch if you’re interested.
We are also running a raffle, where currently one of the top prizes is a signed Erik Ring home shirt from this season: a rare chance to get your hands on a title-winning home shirt, signed by a player! More prizes to be added, and if you wish to donate a prize, please let me know. Tickets will go on sale next week.
Our latest signing
Dean West was one of the brightest homegrown talents to emerge from Lincoln City in the early 1990s, coming through the youth setup after joining as a YTS player under Colin Murphy. Like many apprentices of that era, he mixed reserve football with jobs around Sincil Bank, from painting the ground to cleaning boots, but it quickly became clear he had real ability. A quick, direct winger with an eye for goal, he announced himself by scoring on his first-team debut in a 6-2 win against Carlisle United in 1991, then netting the winner against Grimsby Town in the Lincolnshire Senior Cup final days later.
By 1994/95, West had become virtually undroppable, starting 41 of City’s 42 league games, scoring six times and providing the sort of quality delivery that made him a huge favourite with supporters. He played a key role in memorable cup wins against Hull City and Crystal Palace, while his energy and attacking intent made him one of the standout players of the mid-1990s side. That is why his departure in 1995 remains such a sore point for many fans, with Steve Wicks swapping the 22-year-old for Kevin Hulme in a deal widely regarded as one of the club’s worst decisions.
West went on to enjoy successful spells with Bury and Championship side Burnley, winning promotions and earning huge respect elsewhere, but for many Lincoln supporters, he will always be remembered as the exciting local lad who lit up Sincil Bank during a difficult era for the club.
