Former Lincoln City Loanee Released By Top Flight Outfit

Ex-Lincoln City forward Dan Nlundulu has been released by Scottish Premiership outfit St Mirren.

While he didn’t enjoy the most prolific season infront of goal, Nlundulu managed to bag five goals across all competitions.

His now former outfit retained their top-flight status by the skin of their teeth, overcoming Partick Thistle in a two-legged play-off tie.

The French-born striker, who represented England at youth level over a decade ago, came through the ranks on the south coast at Southampton. He appeared a bright prospect at the time, making 12 Premier League appearances in his breakout campaign at the start of the decade. Nlundulu also scored his first senior goal in a FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town.

In search of regular senior football, he joined the Imps early in the summer transfer window in 2021, after signing a contract extension with the Saints. However, he failed to impress in the red and white of Lincoln, starting just six League One encounters and scoring a solitary goal. As such, he was recalled early and joined league rivals Cheltenham Town. A hamstring injury ended his involvement in Gloucestershire after just four appearances.

He did return to the Robins with better success the following year, scoring four times in 23 appearances. Midway through the 22/23 campaign, Nlundulu moved to Bolton Wanderers, eventually making that move permanent for a six-figure fee. He never hit the heights expected while at the Trotters, spending the 24/25 campaign at Cambridge United. Injury again disrupted his time at the U’s, with the centre forward leaving Bolton having netted six times in 43 matches.

Another former Lincoln man at St Mirren, Mark O’Hara, faces an uncertain future. His contract is up, but the club are in discussions with the Scottish midfielder about extending his stay in Paisley for a fifth season. Both ex-Imps came off the bench in the second leg of their play-off final against Partick, with O’Hara providing the crucial assist for the goal that kept them in the Premiership.

How Has Nlundulu Fared In Scotland?

Nlundulu left fellow promoted outfit, Bolton, in September, penning a one-year contract with the Buddies. Despite their tough league campaign, cup competitions have provided a welcome break for Stephen Robinson, though he left for Aberdeen in March. Nlundulu helped his side to a famous Scottish League Cup triumph over Celtic, scoring in the semi-final victory over Motherwell. Unfortunately, they weren’t provided the opportunity to clinch a domestic double, succumbing to the same opponents in the Scottish FA Cup semi-finals after extra time.

However, Nlundulu did play a vital part in helping St Mirren reach that stage of the competition, directly contributing to both goals in a narrow victory over Patrick in the previous round. In the league, the 27-year-old scored three times, with two of those goals coming in less than a week in October, against Dundee United and Hearts. He also gave the Saints a first-half advantage against basement side Livingston earlier in 2026, though they couldn’t hold on to take all three points.
