Championship transfer activity is gathering pace, with promotion contenders and relegated clubs already facing important decisions before pre-season begins. Today’s news is dominated by transfer speculation involving clubs we’ll be facing next season.
Leeds United Weigh Up Southampton Midfielder Move
Leeds United are considering a summer move for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, according to reports, with the 22-year-old valued at around £20 million.
Charles is one of the players attracting attention after Southampton missed out on an immediate return to the Premier League, with the club now preparing for another Championship campaign. Their collapse at the end of last season, followed by a four-point deduction, has left further uncertainty around St Mary’s.
The Northern Ireland international joined Southampton from Manchester City in 2023 in a deal that could rise to £15 million, meaning the Saints could still make a profit if they decide to sell this summer. He has since made 76 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and adding two assists.
Leeds are looking to strengthen their midfield options, and Charles fits the profile of a young, homegrown player with Championship experience and room to develop. Southampton’s position may depend on whether the player shows any willingness to extend his stay, given he is entering the final year of his current deal.
If a new contract does not look likely, the Saints may have to decide whether to cash in now rather than risk losing value later in the season.
