West Brom Seal Stewart Deal As Morgan Talks Advance
West Bromwich Albion have completed a £1.3million move for Falkirk striker Barney Stewart, while talks are also progressing over Chelsea forward Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
The Baggies have made Stewart their first signing of the summer, with the 22-year-old agreeing a four-year deal at The Hawthorns after a rapid rise in Scotland. The London-born forward was spotted playing amateur football for Heriot-Watt University after moving north to study sports science, before breaking into the professional game.
Stewart scored 19 goals last season, including 10 in the Scottish Premiership after being recalled from a loan spell with Dunfermline. That form attracted interest from England, but Albion have now won the race.
“I’m so excited by the challenge of playing in the Championship.
“I love the frequency of the games and it’s one of the best leagues in the world to watch. To be a part of the division will be incredible.”
He could soon be joined by Morgan, with the Standard reporting that Chelsea and Albion have agreed a fee in excess of £4million, plus a sizeable sell-on clause. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Peterborough United, scoring 14 goals in all competitions.
James Morrison’s side finished only four points above the Championship relegation zone last season, but their early transfer work suggests the club are looking to reshape their attack quickly.
