West Ham Add Young Forward Jett Murphy
West Ham United have added young forward Jett Murphy to their academy ranks on a two-year deal, with Claret & Hugh reporting that the 18-year-old will join the club’s Under-21 setup.
Murphy impressed during a trial spell with the Hammers last season, scoring against Norwich City while featuring for the Under-18s. His deal will begin on July 1, and he becomes an early academy recruit in what is expected to be a busy summer at youth level.
The forward is a lifelong West Ham supporter and is aiming to follow recent academy graduates by progressing towards the senior squad. The club have pointed to his goalscoring record and the impression he made on and off the pitch as key reasons behind the deal.
“I’m over the moon to have signed for the Club,” he said. “It’s been a lifetime dream of mine and my family’s too, as we’re all West Ham fans. I’ve supported the Club since I was born, so it feels like a full-circle moment. It’s unbelievable and I still can’t get over the fact it’s happened”
Academy director Kenny Brown also praised the work done behind the scenes by West Ham’s recruitment staff, despite the club currently operating without a head of recruitment following the departure of Maximilian Hahn at the end of last season.
“We’re delighted to have Jett here,” he said. “He made a really strong impression on our recruitment department, who brought in plenty of details and reports around him.
“All of the early signs are really positive and he’s been brilliant on and off the pitch. He’s scored goals everywhere he’s played”
Murphy will now step into the Under-21 environment, where West Ham will hope he can continue developing after earning his contract through his trial performances.
