Championship Latest: Bristol City Eye €4m Striker, West Ham Complete First Summer Deal

Bristol City, Millwall and West Ham are all involved in the key bits of Championship news on Thursday, June 23rd.

Bristol City Closing In On Sam Greenwood

Bristol City are reportedly advanced in their move for former Sunderland and Middlesbrough forward Sam Greenwood, with The Northern Echo reporting that the Robins are now frontrunners for his signature.

Greenwood is set for a return to English football after a spell in Poland with Pogon Szczecin, where he moved from Leeds United last summer in a deal reportedly worth around €4 million. Blackburn Rovers had also shown interest, with Tony Mowbray identifying the 24-year-old as a target ahead of his first full season back at Ewood Park, but Rovers are said to have had a £1 million bid rejected earlier this week.

Reports in Poland now suggest Bristol City have moved to the front of the queue, with the deal described as advanced and Greenwood understood to have left Poland to undergo a medical at Ashton Gate. Wrexham have also been credited with an interest, but the Robins appear to be in the strongest position.

Greenwood came through at Sunderland before joining Arsenal as a teenager, then moved on to Leeds in 2020. He had a loan spell at Middlesbrough in 2023/24, where he made a bright start before struggling for consistency, and Boro opted against making the move permanent. He spent the following campaign on loan at Preston North End, but that also failed to develop into a permanent transfer.

His first season in Poland brought 20 appearances, three goals and two assists. Now, though, the forward looks set for a swift Championship return, with Bristol City seemingly close to adding another attacking option.
