Middlesbrough Still Working On Kyle Joseph Deal
Middlesbrough’s proposed move for Hull City forward Kyle Joseph remains unresolved after a complication halted the deal.
Boro had looked set to sign the 24-year-old after agreeing a £5 million package with Hull, but the move hit a stumbling block on Tuesday and has yet to be finalised. According to the latest update, Middlesbrough officials are still trying to work through the issue, although the transfer is now said to be in the balance.
Hull had needed to raise around £6 million by the close of play on Tuesday to avoid breaching financial restrictions, with potential consequences including a points deduction in the Premier League. The Tigers are understood to have raised the required funds through the sales of Ivor Pandur to Rangers and Aidon Shehu to Panathinaikos, but the Joseph deal was still expected to proceed.
Joseph played a key role in Hull’s promotion last season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. He also started the play-off semi-final second leg against Millwall, but suffered an ankle injury that ruled him out of the Wembley final victory over Middlesbrough.
That injury would have prevented him from joining Middlesbrough’s squad immediately for the start of pre-season, even if the deal had gone through as planned. Boro return to Rockliffe on Thursday as Kim Hellberg looks to freshen up his attacking options, with midfield also a priority as Hayden Hackney finalises a £25 million move to Everton.
