Wolverhampton Wanderers Striker Attracts Serie A Interest
Genoa have reportedly joined Fiorentina in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare, with the Nigerian’s future uncertain following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Arokodare moved to Molineux from Belgian side Genk last summer but endured a difficult first season in England. He scored six goals in all competitions as Wolves were relegated from the Premier League, although his previous record in Belgium continues to make him an attractive option for clubs elsewhere in Europe.
The 25-year-old scored 41 times in 113 appearances for Genk before earning his move to England. Genoa have now added him to their shortlist as they search for a new centre-forward, with sporting director Diego Lopez reportedly leading their recruitment process.
Fiorentina are understood to be further advanced in their pursuit of the Nigeria international. They have already held talks with Wolves and are said to have submitted an improved proposal involving a loan deal with a €22 million option to buy. Arokodare is also believed to be open to playing in Serie A.
Genoa’s involvement could create competition for his signature, while Wolves will have to decide whether to cash in after only one season or retain him for their Championship campaign. His departure would leave them needing to reshape their attacking options before the new season begins.
