Wrexham Make Record Contract Offer To Senegal International
Wrexham have reportedly made the biggest contract offer in the club’s history in an attempt to sign Senegal striker Bamba Dieng, who is available following his departure from Lorient.
The 26-year-old became a free agent when his contract expired at the start of July, having finished last season with ten Ligue 1 goals from just 15 starts. His form during the second half of the campaign has attracted interest from clubs in England, France, Germany and Spain.
Wrexham are said to have gone further than their rivals by putting a record proposal on the table. Dieng was reportedly earning around £60,000 per month in France, but the Championship club’s offer would significantly improve those terms.
Hull City are also believed to have offered an attractive contract, while Middlesbrough and West Ham have been monitoring developments. Bournemouth registered an interest after finishing sixth in the Premier League, but Dieng was reportedly unconvinced by the prospect of joining as a back-up option.
The former Marseille forward would bring pace and physical strength to the Championship, along with top-flight experience in France. Wrexham narrowly missed out on promotion last season and their willingness to offer a club-record contract suggests they intend to challenge near the top of the division again.
There would be no transfer fee involved, but the scale of the salary package means the deal would still represent a significant financial commitment. Hull’s rival offer also underlines the increasingly competitive market facing Championship clubs as they search for proven attacking quality.
