Championship Latest: Aston Villa Eye £40m Replacement, Wrexham Prepare Record-Breaking Financial Package

Today’s Championship transfer roundup features a potential British-record deal, two sizeable defensive moves and further evidence of the spending power being shown by clubs across the division. With squads beginning to take shape ahead of the new season, several of Lincoln City’s rivals are being linked with ambitious additions.

Aston Villa Line Up £40 Million Morgan Rogers Replacement

Aston Villa are considering a move for West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville as a possible replacement for former Lincoln City loanee Morgan Rogers, according to a new report.

Rogers is said to be closing in on a £117 million transfer to Chelsea, which would make him the most expensive British footballer in history. The England international was reportedly due to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the option of a further season.

Villa are already looking at how they might replace him, with Summerville emerging as a possible target. Roma have reportedly offered around £40 million for the 24-year-old, while Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with interest during the summer.

Summerville is expected to leave West Ham following their relegation to the Championship. The former Leeds United winger scored seven times in 34 appearances across all competitions last season and also impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup, registering two goals and two assists as his country reached the round of 32.

Rogers spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Lincoln, scoring six times in 28 appearances as the Imps reached the League One play-off final. His career has accelerated rapidly since then, with his proposed Chelsea move potentially earning Manchester City a significant sell-on payment.
