2023/24 West Ham
0-1 (H)
Having eliminated Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, Lincoln City welcomed reigning Europa Conference League winners West Ham United to Sincil Bank in the third round of the 2023/24 Carabao Cup. Mark Kennedy’s depleted side competed superbly against opponents assembled for vastly greater sums, restricting their Premier League visitors while creating opportunities of their own. Alex Mitchell had a goal correctly ruled out for offside, Reeco Hackett forced Łukasz Fabiański into an excellent save and Lukas Jensen produced a crucial double stop after Sean Roughan slipped.
The tie remained goalless until the 70th minute, when Tomáš Souček converted from a corner to give West Ham the lead. Even then, City refused to fold: Dylan Duffy tested Fabiański with a powerful effort and Ethan Hamilton struck a late free-kick into the wall as the Imps searched for an equaliser. West Ham held on for a 1-0 victory, but the narrow defeat reflected another accomplished display against top-flight opposition. A crowd of 10,168 had watched Lincoln push David Moyes’s European trophy winners to the limit.
