2026/27 – AFC Bournemouth

0-4 (A)

Lincoln City’s latest League Cup meeting with Premier League opposition ended in a comprehensive 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth. Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw made ten changes from the side which had drawn with Southampton, handing Daniel Oyegoke his debut and Chiedozie Ogbene and Mikkel Ladefoged their first starts. Ryan Christie opened the scoring after seven minutes, converting Ben Gannon-Doak’s cross, although Ryley Towler then missed a clear opportunity to equalise when a Tom Bayliss free-kick caused problems inside the Bournemouth area.

Bournemouth dominated possession and created chances with increasing regularity after the break, with James Hill striking the frame of the goal before Christie headed in his second from a corner after 69 minutes. The Scotland international completed his hat-trick in the 88th minute after Joe Gauci’s punch dropped into his path, before Rayan added a fourth on the break during stoppage time. City had remained within one goal for more than an hour, but the closing stages underlined the gulf between the teams and brought the Imps’ 2026 cup campaign to an emphatic end.
