Lincoln City suffered a 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United, with the scoreline ultimately reflecting a difficult second half rather than the competitive opening City produced at Bramall Lane.
The Imps started well and created the better opportunities during the opening stages, with Rob Street and Freddie Draper both threatening before Sheffield United gradually grew into the contest. The hosts struck shortly before half-time to take control, despite City having more than held their own for much of the opening 45 minutes.
Sheffield United then took the game away from City after the restart, scoring early in the second half before adding a third later on. We made a number of attacking changes in an effort to get back into the contest, but could not find a route back into the game.
Here is how we saw the game on a player-by-player basis.

George Wickens – 5
Not a great afternoon for George. Conceded three from five shots, and the other two he failed to hold and grabbed at second attempt. Not to blame for the goals, although he will be disappointed with the second on the angle.
Ryley Towler – 7
Did well with a couple of interceptions, and despite the Imps conceding three, could be blamed for the goals. Plenty of interceptions and clearances when City were under pressure.
Sonny Bradley – 6
Maybe should have picked up Bamford for the opener. Made some headed clearances and led by example on a difficult afternoon. Got Tom Cannon riled up as well, which was a bit of panto.
Deji Elerewe – 6
Again, didn’t do too much wrong, but was part of a defence which leaked three goals. Had a header at goal in the second half which he might have liked to do better with, but certainly no disgrace.
