Championship Roundup: West Ham Striker Backed For Recall As Derby County Defender Speaks Out

Derby County Defender Calls For Collective Response

Derby County defender Ryan Nyambe has called on the squad to take collective responsibility after their difficult start continued against Stoke City. Saturday’s defeat was their seventh in 11 Championship games, leaving John Eustace’s side second from bottom with one league victory.

Lewis Travis limped out of the game to add to an injury list already containing Sondre Langas, Matt Clarke, Craig Forsyth and Eiran Cashin. Nyambe filled in at centre-half against the Potters, despite saying he had played there only around five times in his career.

Nyambe identified injuries and declining confidence as the main problems. He told BBC Radio Derby:

“Obviously, you can see injuries. Then you lose games, confidence goes down – those are the two main factors.

“Everyone needs to gain confidence somehow whether it’s next game we win the scruffy way, just get a win and then maybe it’s a start for us.

“We all need to stand up and showcase what we’re about. It’s a tough league but I think we’ve just got to compete.”

Derby travel to Sheffield United on Saturday for a 12:30pm kick-off. Nyambe has urged the players to assess their own contributions as they prepare for the trip to Bramall Lane.

“Let’s not do blame games, it’s all of us together, we’re all letting ourselves down. There’s obviously individual mistakes in games but we’ve all got to look at ourselves and as a team as well.”
