2. Mason Melia
Melia has been unlucky, with injury interrupting his chance to establish himself after arriving from Tottenham. He has made four appearances, split between the league and League Cup, but his absence has left him playing catch-up in an already competitive area of the squad.
There has been talk of interest from League One strugglers Wigan Athletic, while suggestions that he had already returned to Spurs were unsubstantiated on deadline day. A League One loan is certainly something I could understand, because the priority for a young player in his position has to be getting meaningful minutes.
The irony is that departures elsewhere could improve his prospects here. If Wheatley and Chiedozie Ogbene were to leave, there might be a clearer route into the side when fit, but Melia and Tottenham would have to weigh that possibility against the risk of another frustrating few months.
Much will depend on his fitness and involvement before the next international break. With so many clubs reportedly interested in him over the summer, Spurs are unlikely to be short of alternatives if they decide a different loan would better serve his development.
