Ten Strikers Who Had Nightmare Sincil Bank Stays

Gary Powell

This is a personal pick, one which I am sure some will dispute. I’m bound to hear something like ‘he was a decent player, just not right for us’, but the fact was he was a loan player from the top flight who looked worse than Fourth Division during his short spell. He did suffer from being an Allan Clarke signing, a player who famously asked Phil Stant what his strengths were after signing him, so maybe we can forgive him a little.

He had 11 goalless games on loan for us, only one of which we won. I remember attending one of those games, a draw with Hereford, thinking how bad he looked. Sure, I was in my early teens, but it always stuck wth me, not least because I’d shouted him as the next big thing when he signed. He isn’t the only player on this list more because he let me down rather than how bad he was, or wasn’t.
