Patrick Brough – Barrow
Imps Appearances – 4
Imps Goals – 0
27-year-old Brough is on the lookout for a new club, and he once strutted his stuff on the hallowed turf of Sincil Bank. He appeared four times for City, but never on a winning side. In those four games, we conceded nine goals, and he returned to Carlisle once his loan spell concluded. After stints with Morecambe and Falkirk, he joined Barrow, with whom he won the National League. This season, he missed in the penalty shootout at Holker Street in the Carabao Cup, as did another former Imp, Robbie Gotts.
Despite being a left-back, a position we need to fill, I don’t think Brough would be the man to do it. He’s likely to remain in League Two. Still, we’ll always have (checks notes), that famous 2-2 draw with Halifax Town to look back on.
Sam Clucas – Stoke City
Imps Appearances – 1
Imps Goals – 0
I know; Sam once said he’d love to finish his career here; he has unfinished business, and if it is ever going to happen, now is the time. He’s just been released by Stoke City, but Sam has had quite the career. The 32-year-old was working at Debenhams when he got his first pro deal from Peter Jackson, with the former Bradford manager also giving Clucas his first run out. Sadly, it was in Jacko’s final game as boss, and when Chris Sutton came in, the wirey ginger kid from the department store was nudged out.
He’s done pretty well since. Hereford, Mansfield, and Chesterfield turned him into a £1m player for Hull. They turned him into a £16m player with Swansea, and Stoke later forked out £6m for his services. He only played 14 times this season, and whilst the notion of him coming back here is a nice one, I’m not sure it is the sort of move the club would pursue.
