Stephen Dobbie Reflects on Steve Bruce’s Blackpool Exit
Stephen Dobbie has spoken of his respect for Steve Bruce following the veteran manager’s departure from Blackpool.
Bruce, sixty-four, was dismissed after losing seven of his opening 11 League One matches, with last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon proving his final game in charge.
Dobbie, who has taken interim charge alongside Steve Banks, said he learned a lot from Bruce and assistant Steve Agnew during their time together.
“You make great connections so it’s never nice to see anyone lose their job. It was a sad day, and then I got the call to take it interim,” Dobbie explained.
He revealed that Bruce offered him words of encouragement following his appointment.
“I spoke to Steve on Sunday — he was great. I thanked him for bringing me into the staff, I’ve learnt lots from him. He said: ‘Try it your way, it didn’t work the way we’d hoped, but you’re more than ready.’”
Blackpool travel to Stockport County seeking a first away win of the campaign, with Dobbie keen to quickly impose his own style on the side.
