One Player From Every League One Club I’d Love Lincoln City To Sign

Huddersfield Town – Sean Roughan

I don’t care. Really, I don’t, you can call me all you want, but if I could pick one Huddersfield Town player to take to the Championship with us, it would be Sean Roughan.

Would he play every week? Maybe, maybe not. You’d probably rather have Adam Reach than Sean at left back in our 4-2-3-1. You’d possibly have Sonny Bradley at left centre back in a four. But if we needed to go three at the back, Sean would fit in. He could cover, he could play, and he’d be a huge asset.

Because he left looking for Championship football, and got off one stop too early, doesn’t make him a bad player. He was ambitious, he made a choice and it hasn’t worked out exactly as he’d planned, but he’s still got the potential to be a good Championship player.

Leyton Orient – Dom Ballard

In an article of less obvious picks, this one is the most obvious it could be. Ballard was a handful, full of running, stretching our defence and causing issues. His goal was a poacher’s goal, ghosting in between two great centre-backs and nodding home. He oozed class throughout, and he is the Player of the Season in League One.

The ability to score is great, but what really impressed me was his work rate with that. Sometimes, a great striker hangs about, drifts out of the game, and you work around him. Ballard works with everyone, if anything, he leads from the front. I respect a player like that.

I would also like to give Sonny Perkins a sneaky mention here, only came on as a sub last week, but every time I have seen him, he impresses me. He’s good on the ball, but for an attacker, he looks strong, and has even won 60% of his defensive duels.

Luton Town – Gideon Kodua

The West Ham loanee has made his move to Kenilworth Road permanent, and that’s a shame, because his profile would fit perfectly with what we need. There’s something about West Ham academy graduates I like (see Sonny Perkins) and Kodua is another. They feel like they’re a little more physical, but they always have good technique and ability on the ball.

Kodua feels like a force of nature, a player with a big, strong physical profile but bags of ability, and that’s a frightening combination. Tolaj and Bim Pepple are, to a lesser extent, the same, and for a team like us, having a player (or players) like that would be a huge advantage. With 12 goal involvements this season, Kodua’s danger is clear for all to see.
