Plymouth Argyle – Lorent Tolaj
So it has to be Tolaj. Skilful, physical, a bully and a finisher, he has it all. If he’s in League One next season, I’ll wear a Grimsby Town shirt to the opening day of 2026/27 (that’s a lie, I won’t).
Aside from him, there is Bim Pepple, another brute up top with a real presence we’d find useful in our setup. Alex Mitchell, obviously, is another we’d be happy to see among our ranks, while Owen Oseni is yet another I’d happily have on our bench challenging for a starting spot.
I even liked Xavier Amaechi is the first game, and while he hasn’t destroyed League One like I thought he would, he oozed technical ability that should have him well into double figures for goals and assists. As it is, he has five goal involvements in total, two against us.
Port Vale – Ethon Archer
I haven’t seen enough of Port Vale in the flesh to comment too much, but the numbers suggest they should be doing better than they are. In the xG table, the table nobody earned promotion from, they’re on 53 points, sixth from bottom and safe.
They must have some quality, and watching the other night, Ethon Archer caught my eye. He has four goal involvements, a keen eye for a dead ball, and that physical profile I keep mentioning. He’d be one, I think, who could ferment nicely in our squad.
Reading – Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan
I nearly said Paddy Lane for a laugh. I was also tempted by Lewis Wing because obviously, it should be him. I almost said Paudie because wouldn’t it be nice for our former captain to come back and enjoy Championship football with us? No? Whatever, there is room for sentiment in football.
I’ve picked Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan for the wrong reasons. He wasn’t good against us, but he did win Player of the Month recently and that profile looks just like the type we can develop. There is an element of the Jovon Makama in him, an unconventional ‘something’ that I feel would really fit Lincoln City.
Plus, what a great name for me to learn on the podcast.
