Pompey are a bigger club than us, but in terms of budget in the Championship, they’ll be in our cohort this season (within three or four places of us). Denmark, Austria and Australia feature in their summer business, and they went back to Australia in January for two more. Josh Murphy, promoted with Oxford at the same time as Pompey, was their most impressive signing in terms of appearances, starting 40 matches and scoring seven times.

I’m interested in their imports, so how well did they do? Schmid did well from Austria, making 36 appearances in goal, but the Australian imports didn’t work. Farrell made a single appearance, while Thomas Waddingham and Kesi Yengi hit 19 in total between them. To compare that with other members of their squad, Ryley Towler played 14 games, ten of those starts, and Paddy Lane appeared 22 times, starting 12.

Sørensen made 13 appearances, scoring once, but is now back in Norway. Ritchie and Dozzell, both with lots of experience in the Championship, played 41 and 40 games, but 11 of those appearances came from the bench for both.

Abdoulaye Kamara looks interesting, coming from Dortmund, but he’s now playing third-tier football in Germany.
