The Top Ten Lincoln City Teams Of All Time: Where Does 2025/26 Rank?

1997/98 – Third Division Promotion

The achievement is promotion, but ironically, the man whose name will be associated with this team was gone by then. This entry is the John Beck era, and I know this will be as divisive as the Kennedy / Appleton debate. Some saw this as a bad time, rubbish football presented as battling, a long unbeaten run that included draws with Gainsborough Trinity and Emley.

But then we’ll always have The Dell (202 with Southampton, robbed in the replay). We’ll always have Maine Road (1-0, already leading 4-1 from the first leg). We’ll always have Gareth Ainsworth doing the Dambusters, a moment in time more about culture than cultivated football.

This was the mid-nineties, Britpop, Cool Britannia and Lincoln City were half decent again. The best ever? Nowhere near, I only included it because my Patreons suggested it. Fun? Absolutely, and a great time to follow the Imps.
