SportsBoom claimed City had opened talks with former Peterborough United midfielder Archie Collins following his release by Posh.
SportsBoom’s record with Imps’ stories has been mixed, so caution is needed, but Collins does at least look like the sort of player who could fit. He is experienced in League One, technically tidy and capable of linking play through midfield.
His most recent season brought two goals and seven assists, solid numbers in a Peterborough side that did not always convince. Before that, he was a key figure at Exeter City, helping them win promotion before moving to Posh in 2023.
The question is whether City need another player in that area. Conor McGrandles, Ivan Varfolomeev and Bayliss already offer options, and any new midfield arrival would have to bring something different or raise the level.
On a free transfer, Collins makes sense as a rumour. Whether it is any more than that remains to be seen.
