We had one season of Lukas, but it was some season. The big Dane was a sensational capture, and made a lot of crucial saves in a campaign that was turbulent to say the least. He was crucial in our late run to the top six, keeping lots of clean sheets and winning the club’s Player of the Season award.

Local lad Paul Mayo came through the academy at the turn of the century and played a vital role in our 2002/03 play-off campaign. His finish against Scunthorpe in the semi-final was sumptuous, and he eventually earned a move to Watford, scoring in the final five minutes of his (first) Imps stint to complete a 2-0 win against Hull. He returned in 2005/06 and was a key part of John Schofield’s 2006/07 side.

Scott was industrious and full of endeavour, making 221 league appearances for the Imps between 2005 and 2011. He was part of the side that made the play-off semi-finals in 05/06 and 06/07, and outlasted several managers, before Steve Tilson farmed him out on loan. He was club captain and Player of the Season in 2008/09.

Finally, for this bit, another of the 2006/07 side, Jeff Hughes. Jeff arrived from Larne in 2005/06 and looked a bit lightweight for the level, scoring twice in 24 appearances. The following season, he took off, with nine goals in 44 outings, including three in two play-off matches against Bristol Rovers, a Boxing Day winner against Boston United, and two as we put seven past Rochdale. Left for Crystal Palace and had a decent EFL career, despite not quite making it at Selhurst Park.
