There are still plenty of moves being made across the Championship as clubs look to shape their squads in the opening weeks of the season. Sheffield United are reportedly bringing back a former England international, while Michael Skubala has added another player at Bristol City and Norwich City are among several clubs chasing an emerging Nigerian winger.
Sheffield United Agree Phillips Return
Sheffield United have agreed a deal to bring Kalvin Phillips back to Bramall Lane on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
The 30-year-old spent the second half of last season with Chris Wilder’s side, although his first spell was hardly straightforward. He made just three appearances, was sent off in his final outing and then suffered an injury which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign. Wilder has evidently seen enough to want another look, with Phillips still having two years remaining on his Manchester City contract.
The former Leeds United midfielder cost City up to £45 million in 2022, but the move has never really worked. Another season in the Championship gives him an opportunity to get regular football again, while Sheffield United will hope they can finally see something closer to the player who became an England regular at Elland Road.
“I still feel like I’ve got life in me and a lot of football to play. I’m looking forward to the next three or four years.”
