2: Paul Green

The Imps have had no fewer than 16 players wearing the number 2 shirt, and it’s one where there’s been a lot of quality. Regan Poole, Dean West, Mark Bailey, Jason Barnett and Lee Beevers all wore number two, but the player who held it for the longest is the criminally underrated Paul Green.
Jason Barnett held it for three seasons, Regan Poole and Lee Beevers for two-and-a-half years, but Paul Green had it for four seasons, between 2007/8 and 2010/11.
Green signed from Aston Villa in the 2006/07 season, originally taking the number 6 shirt vacated by Richard Kell before picking up the number associated with the right-back spot. He started 120 matches for the Imps but was blighted by injury, which undoubtedly stopped him from plying his trade further up the Football League.
In my opinion, Paul Green was one of the only players to come out of the horror show 2010/11 season with any credit, one of the few who looked like he ever gave a damn about our decline.
