4: Lewis Montsma

Only one of the current squad gets into our longevity squad 1-11 XI, and that’s a player we’d love to see back in the number 4 shirt soon. Lewis Montsma has now worn number four for four seasons since the 2020/21 campaign.

Montsma has started 65 games for the Imps in that period, and we’re all hoping he can manage plenty more when he does return. He is currently ahead of Ben Futcher (three seasons) and Todd Jordan (two-and-a-half seasons) in terms of longevity.

Interestingly (and regular readers know I use that phrase liberally), the number 4 is used as often for centre-backs as midfielders. Michael O’Connor, Eliott Whitehouse and Justin Walker all wore 4, as did Grant Brown, Gareth McAuley and Janos Kovacs.
