Conor McGrandles
Officially, Conor is back for his third spell at the club. Injury cruelly robbed us of Mr McGrandles just as we made our surge towards the play-offs, but that doesn’t diminish what he’s capable of (hang on… didn’t I just write that?).
Will injury rob him of a chance to start the season as Ethan Erhahon’s regular partner? He hasn’t been seen properly in pre-season and there’s talk of a scan this week, so it could be that two of our Scottish trio are not going to be available for Burton.
Now, that would be a blow—with Conor McGrandles, you know what you’re getting. I think he’s a better player with the right teammates. For instance, a midfield that relies on McGrandles as its holding player is probably a lower half of the table side. A midfield with McGrandles partnering (for instance) Ethan Erhahon is without a doubt a top-ten side, if not better. It frees him up to chase and harass, cover every blade of grass and chip in with goals.
If he’s fit, he would likely partner Erhahon at the Pirelli. If he’s not, then another one of the Magnificent Seven will get a shot
