Championship Latest: Liverpool Defender Close To Move, Millwall Target €1m Defender

Championship clubs are continuing to reshape their plans ahead of the summer window, with recruitment roles, midfield exits and young defensive targets all featuring in the latest round of news.

Birmingham City Search Continues After Kieran Scott Blow

Birmingham City’s hunt for a new director of football remains ongoing after Birmingham Live reported that Middlesbrough head of football Kieran Scott has no interest in leaving the Riverside.

Blues are looking for a successor to Craig Gardner, who left his recruitment role earlier this month after five years at the club. Gardner had initially returned as technical director in 2021 before taking on a wider brief across the football operation, including Birmingham’s transfer business.

Scott had emerged as one of the names linked with the vacancy, but reports in the North East suggest he is fully focused on Middlesbrough’s own summer plans. Boro missed out on promotion after defeat to Hull City in the Championship play-off final and are expected to be among the clubs targeting another push near the top end next season.

His reputation has grown during his time at the Riverside, with Middlesbrough making strong profits on several players, including Morgan Rogers, Emmanuel Latte Lath, Rav van den Berg and Finn Azaz. Dan Ashworth and Kristjaan Speakman have also been linked with the Birmingham role, with Speakman having previously worked in the Blues academy before moving to Sunderland.
