Championship Latest: Wrexham Eye £7m Premier League Swoop, West Ham Linked With £17m Striker

Transfer activity is beginning to gather pace across the Championship, with clubs exploring permanent deals, loan moves and further additions ahead of the new season.

Wrexham Target Sunderland Goalkeeper

Wrexham are reportedly considering a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson as they strengthen their squad ahead of the new Championship campaign.

The 26-year-old could be available for around £7 million, although Wrexham are also thought to be exploring a loan agreement. According to the latest report, the Welsh club would prefer either a straightforward temporary move or a loan containing an option or obligation to buy.

Patterson came through Sunderland’s academy and established himself as their first-choice goalkeeper during two successful promotion campaigns. He helped the Black Cats win promotion from League One in 2022 before playing a key role in their return to the Premier League three years later.

The goalkeeper made two important saves during Sunderland’s 2-1 play-off final victory over Sheffield United, but later fell behind Robin Roefs in the pecking order.

He was limited to one senior appearance during the first half of last season before joining Millwall on loan in February. The Lions are also interested in taking him back to The Den following that spell.

Rangers reportedly decided against progressing their interest because of Sunderland’s valuation, while Wolverhampton Wanderers have also considered a move. Patterson has returned to training with Sunderland while his future is resolved.
