The Championship transfer market is beginning to gather pace, with clubs across the division stepping up their recruitment ahead of the new season. There is a potential big-money move involving one of the division’s newcomers, while several established names could also be on the move as squads continue to take shape.
Cardiff City Push For £8.5 Million Midfielder
Cardiff City are reportedly in talks over a move for Tromsø midfielder Jens Hjertø-Dahl as they prepare for their return to the Championship.
The Bluebirds secured promotion at the first attempt last season, finishing runners-up behind Lincoln City, but their transfer activity has been relatively quiet so far. Goalkeeper Nathan Trott has completed a permanent move following his loan from FC Copenhagen, while Jesper Daland has returned after Fortuna Düsseldorf were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga.
Cardiff are now looking to step up their recruitment, with Hjertø-Dahl emerging as a major target. The 20-year-old has been one of the leading performers for Tromsø during the first half of the Norwegian season, helping them rise to the top of the Eliteserien.
The latest reports from Norway claim Cardiff are happy with their position in negotiations, with owner Vincent Tan believed to be keeping a close eye on developments. A deal would require a significant financial commitment, with the fee said to be between £5.5 million and £8.5 million.
Rangers have also been linked with the midfielder, although their interest is reported to have cooled as they turn their attention towards other targets. One of those is Partizan Belgrade midfielder Vanja Dragojevic.
Hjertø-Dahl has scored seven goals in 14 league appearances this season, including one in each of Tromsø’s two matches since the Eliteserien resumed after its summer break. He has represented Norway at under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level, although he is yet to make his senior international debut.
Despite being only 20, he has already made more than 100 appearances for Tromsø, and Cardiff will hope they can complete the deal ahead of the new season.
