It’s widely expected that Lincoln City will bring in a keeper on loan for the coming season.
Jamie Pardington penned his deal recently, but was labelled as the club’s third-choice keeper. With the second choice, Zach Jeacock, out on loan, it leaves a gap underneath our number one stopper, George Wickens.
It’s unlikely we’d look to bring a competitor in for Jeacock, a player the club have high hopes for. It is more likely we’ll go for a loan, someone to add pressure to Wickens, but not to necessarily be a long-term number one. Not yet, anyway.
Being in the Championship means we’re likely to either bring in a top-flight youngster, or someone who has already got senior experience in the EFL. I’d lean heavily into the latter: we’re surely going to look at keepers who have had a successful loan already. Think Trevor Carson rather than Elliot Parish.
I did a search of keepers who played in League One and Two last season, and was hugely surprised at the heavy leaning towards clubs owning their own keepers. One or two that had loans last season have since moved on, making it a fairly narrow selection of keepers we could pick from.
With that in mind, I cross-referenced Wyscout’s database with loan keepers to find the best five from the two basement divisions last season, who could justifiably claim to be ready to sit on a Championship bench.
These are the five keepers I think could be a Lincoln City target.
