Ten Free Agents Championship Clubs Like Lincoln City Could Still Sign

Tyrell Malacia

Last club: Manchester United

Tyrell Malacia is a 27-year-old left-back with Premier League, Eredivisie and European experience, as well as nine senior caps for the Netherlands. He developed in Feyenoord’s academy and made 137 appearances across all competitions for the Rotterdam club, helping them win the KNVB Cup and reach the 2022 Europa Conference League final. His performances earned him a place in the competition’s Team of the Season and persuaded Manchester United to sign him for an initial £13 million. Malacia played 39 times during his first campaign at Old Trafford and collected an EFL Cup winner’s medal, while he was also part of the Netherlands squad at the 2022 World Cup.

A serious knee injury subsequently kept Malacia out for around 18 months and disrupted his progress in England. He returned to senior football during the 2024/25 season, which included a loan spell with PSV Eindhoven, but featured only three times for Manchester United during his final campaign before leaving at the end of his contract. His fitness and recent lack of regular football would require careful assessment, but a Championship club could acquire an athletic, technically capable full-back with experience of playing in possession-based teams and competing at a considerably higher level. If Malacia can rediscover his sharpness, he would have the pedigree to become one of the division’s standout free-agent additions.
