Sheffield Wednesday defender Joe Emery was linked with City by Pete O’Rourke at Football Insider, who reported that the Imps were monitoring the youngster’s contract situation. The 19-year-old centre-back began his development with Charlton Athletic before joining Wednesday and signing his first professional deal in July 2025. Emery made seven senior appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, including his debut against Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup and his first Championship appearance against Bristol City.
I’m really not sure about this. It never felt like we were signing project players, and the 19-year-old would fit that bill. At 6ft 1in, he isn’t the sort of monster we’d normally go for, but at the same time, it’s a bit too random. He’s still with Sheff Weds, and he hasn’t played this season, which tells you he wasn’t ready to impact our first team.
