Lincoln City Sincil Bank Ground

Lincoln City were linked with players from across the EFL and Europe during a transfer window that marked our first recruitment campaign as a Championship club in more than 60 years.

We brought you as many as we could, ignoring the obvious clickbait sites, but how accurate were the rumours? Some felt credible, others appeared unlikely from the outset, while several were subsequently confirmed as genuine pursuits.

This article brings all of those reported targets together in one place, from the earliest links before promotion was secured through to the stories which emerged as deadline day approached. Each entry covers where the rumour originated, a little background on the player and, where possible, what actually happened. We also give you a rating, up to five stars, as to how credible we think the rumour was.

With the window now closed, we can compare the speculation with the business City eventually completed.

Dael Fry

First reported: 14th April

Middlesbrough captain Dael Fry was first linked with City by Sports Boom, which claimed the Imps, Charlton Athletic and Sheffield United were monitoring his situation ahead of his contract expiring. The 28-year-old centre-back came through Middlesbrough’s academy and has spent almost his entire senior career with his hometown club, apart from a short loan at Rotherham United during the 2016/17 season. An experienced Championship defender and former England youth international, Fry has made more than 300 senior appearances and represented his country from under-17 to under-21 level.
