Reading midfielder Charlie Savage was linked with City and fellow promoted side Cardiff City by Reading Chronicle reporter Ramy Abou-Setta. The 23-year-old Wales international came through Manchester United’s academy and made his senior debut in the Champions League against Young Boys before spending time on loan with Forest Green Rovers and joining Reading permanently in 2023. Savage, who can operate across midfield, made 142 appearances during his first three seasons with the Royals and remained with the club in January despite reported interest from Oxford United.

With Moylan leaving, I can see how Savage might have been on a list. We’d have known Jack was on his way for weeks, maybe as far back as May, who knows? Again, I wouldn’t be surprised if there hadn’t been a conversation, but solid interest? I’m not sure at all.
